Keep the Earth Green!

In typical Tuesday fashion, we had fun with Ms. Michelle...in fact, the boys had a little too much fun with the parachute (shaking, bouncing balls, and taking turn being underneath).  They were wild afterward, but worked hard to calm down with breathing exercises!  Ms. Michelle also had the boys give each other 'parachute rides' up and down the hall.  All that pulling was hard, fun work!

She also worked on following directions and visual discrimination skills using bandanas.  She gave specific instructions to fold the bandana in particular shapes, such as a small square and a triangle 'hat' (which was required to be worn for the parachute rides).  So cute, fun, and goal-oriented.  Ms. Michelle is the BEST!

After Ms. Michelle, the boys and I took to the street (OK, the sidewalk....) for a litter patrol!  At Ms. Michelle's suggestion, we wore our backpacks (for calming sensory support, which doubled as a container for some of the litter). It wasn't hard and we barely got out the door before the piece of trash was spotted!  We found SO much litter- cans, bottles, paper, bus tickets, straws, cups, panties.....(NO, I DIDN'T LET THEM TOUCH THESE....we just left them by the side of the road).  It seemed this activity really hit home, as they were very aware of the pieces of litter....until they were "hot" and "hungry" and we returned for lunch!  We will take a longer Litter Walk on Thursday.

After lunch we read The Earth Book, which details a few ways to help the Earth stay healthy.  Your child now knows to use only ONE squirt of soap, use water for only ONE minute, and use only ONE paper towel.  The book also taught us about turning off lights when we leave a room, and bringing our own bags to the store.  I'm not promising they will do it, but we DID talk about it!

Finally, we made water color Earths using markers on coffee filters and a squirt bottle.  They are beautiful.

Tomorrow we will use the recycling you sent in to make beautiful art!  Reduce, reuse, and recycle!
