Hey, Little Ant!

Hey, little ant down in the crack
Can you hear me? Can you talk back?
See my shoe, can you see that?
Well now it's gonna squish you flat!
So begins a conversation between a young boy and the ant trembling in the shadow of his sneaker. This playful story brings up questions about the ethics and peer pressure, encouraging the very youngest citizens to decide for themselves: to squish...or not to squish?!

One of Ms. Ellen's favorite book was read today- SO much fun!  If you don't know this story, get it soon!  Want to learn more about this this story and promoting philosophy in young children?  Check out Hey, Little Ant official blog here.   There's even a song version of the story: Right click your mouse here and select “Save Link As” to capture the MP3.  I just found it, so the kids haven't heard it....yet!

Of course, the story ends with the boy's foot raised.....we took a vote and decided 10-1 to let the ant live!  We're not telling who voted to kill the ant......

Afterwards, it was on to top secret art- don't check the backpacks until Sunday!  OK, maybe you should get the lunchbox out....
