Swarm of bees!

Today was all about...Bees- Beau's favorite!
A girl visits her beekeeping grandfather in The Beeman by Laurie Krebs, illus. by Melissa Iwai. The text-modeled after "The House That Jack Built"-introduces beekeeping equipment and hive hierarchy, and explains the harvesting of honey ("Here are the house bees/ with swift-moving wings/ that dry up the nectar/ a worker bee brings").

This beautifully illustrated book taught us all about the beekeeping.  Afterwards, Ms. Kelly found a short video that brought beekeeping to life.

To make a beautiful bee, we completed a following direction activity.  The children practiced watching and listening with their hands in their laps.  It's really hard, but we are getting better!  Check out the BEAUTIFUL bees we made!

Finally, Ms. Cortney brough us all a taste of honey. Everyone loved it...well, almost everyone!
