What an exciting day we had in TK! I am so proud of my boys. We had a new friend, Jack who visited our class today. Beau spotted Jack's family first, left our circletime and introduced himself to the family. Wow! A few minutes later, Tucker, Joseph, and Evan met Jack in the bathroom on our way outside. They were all so welcoming and quickly became fast friends....without my cues! Way to go, boys!
Once the novelty of having a new friend wore off, it was as if Jack had been there all along. The boys showed him the tire swing, the cave, and the sandbox. They all played and made Jack fell welcome. We think Jack will be joining us everyday beginning on Monday. I know four little boys who are so excited.....
Once back inside the boys helped Jack learn about air travel, which we have learned is called......aviation! What a big word! We read this awesome book which gives a (very brief) history of air travel, discusses the types of air travel, and functions of various air craft. We added hang glider and gliders to our tree map.
Next, we made our own rockets! Now, it takes a little imagination to see the 'rocketness' of the projects, but the kids know they are rockets and enjoying counting down....5....4....3.....2......1......BLASTOFF, as they thrust it into the air.
The kids continue to love HarryKindergarten's Counting by Five's Rocket song.
Finally, Ms. Cortney brought a super cool stomp rocket to share. The kids felt the 'air' that powers the rocket, similar to the balloon experiment from yesterday. Next, each child had a turn stomping the rocket and running to retrieve it. What fun for boys!
We intended to learn this song, too, but ran out of time. Here's a link if you want to sing it at home. We will try again tomorrow.
We cannot wait to visit the Aviation Museum tomorrow. What fun! Wear your TSGI shirts!
