My Truck is Stuck!

Laugh and count in Kevin Lewis and Daniel Kirk's hilarious book about a truck that's accidentally driven into a prairie dog hole. As more vehicles arrive to try and pull it out, readers can learn basic numbers and watch the sneaky prairie dogs empty the dump truck's load. In the end, the truck is pulled out by tow truck, but the load of bones has been emptied by the prairie dogs!
We began our theme of 'Transportation' today....and the boys already know a lot about it!  We used this graphic organizer to categorize the information we already know.  As we learn new concepts, this tree map will continue to grow.
See all the modes of transportation the boys know- they named everything on this list!  Watch as we add more concepts in the coming weeks.

Here's a list of words in the -uck rhymefamily we generated today.
Phonological awareness activities, especially a focus on rhyming words and manipulating the onset (initial sound that changes in rhyming words) are an area of focus with this theme....many of the books have lots of rhyming words.

Tomorrow we will read one of my favorite books:  Sheep in a Jeep (Nancy Shaw) and focus on the -eep rhyme family.
