Maybe the little red hen didn't get any of her friends to help her when she wanted to make a cake, but we all worked together to make our cupcakes today! We followed a picture sequence of the steps, deciding first which friend would do what step. The excitement built as we watched Ms. Carol put the cupcakes into the oven to bake. The kids took turns retelling how we made cupcakes using the picture sequence.
Of course, cupcakes need frosting, so each child made their favorite color of frosting by mixing in food coloring. After we frosted the cupcakes, the kids each shared one of their cupcakes with someone who works at the church. Then we got to eat one of our creations and they were very yummy!
Earlier in the day, each of the kids made their own rendition of "The Little Red Hen" story, only this time the hen wanted to make cupcakes instead of a cake or bread! The kids retold the story to either Ms. Carol or myself and their friend. Take a look in your child's backpack and you will find their story!
We had a special visitor with us today for lunch! Joseph's grandma joined us as we were putting the cupcakes into the oven and helped us when we frosted the cupcakes after lunch. She and Joseph worked together to make purple frosting.
Evan brought in a police badge to show all of his friends. He told us that he got it yesterday when he had his hair cut!
Beau got his wish to break an egg into the bowl and stir the batter. His eyes simply shone as we walked down the hallway in anticipation of putting the cupcakes into the oven.
Tucker helped Ms. Carol read our story as he knows all of the parts so well! He also shared one of his cupcakes with Mr. Jimmy, the custodian at the church.
Today was a wonderful ending to our week! Next week...."The Three Little Pigs"! Any one up to helping us cook next Friday?
