Day 5: "Puppet Play"

After we read our book from last Friday, "I Can Do It Day!", the kids each chose their favorite character and made a puppet using 'dot paint' applicators, foam board, pipe cleaners, markers and googly eyes. They wanted to take their puppets home today, but we are using them for a puppet show tomorrow! I do believe it is Beau's favorite story so far as he loves to act out each of the character's actions for us.

To start off our weekly theme, 'My Family', we read the book "I Can Do It Too". As we read the book, we identified each family member and what they were doing followed by a loud chorus of "I can do it too!". We listened for the beginning sound of each word (mom, dad, sister, brother, baby, grandma, grandpa).

We sang the alphabet song using our new letters and then used an Ipad
application to identify each letter and a picture that starts with that sound. Learning to take turns with the IPad was an added bonus (challenge?) for all of us!

For a special treat the kids are earning stickers to earn a group reward. After everyone earns 10 stickers, we are going to put together a 'tornado tube'. We focused on earning stickers for sitting on the green rug today during our morning circle and language circle activities. We are almost half way there!

At the end of the day, we played a matching game to work on taking turns with friends. I learned a lot while watching the kids play. My plan is to incorporate a game time into each day, either as a separate center or during an activity such as morning circle or language circle at least 3 days a week.

The kids are so enjoying Ms. Carol. She has won their hearts over already!

Great day. Great kids. Great weather. Who could ask for more?
