The Snowman

We ended yesterday with so much suspense over the 'Magic Snowflake' science experiment.  It wasn't quite what we expected......seems it needs a little more 'time' (or for a teacher to 'redo' it).  The sample really did turn out great!  But, the botched experiment made for some great discussions!  We will check it again tomorrow, but Ms. Ellen may secretly be re-doing it!

We were so excited to have a new sound family move onto our street today.  We learned that the sounds 'th' (voiced and unvoiced) are 'twins' since they are both written with the letters 'th'.  It was fun to practice putting our teeth between in our tongue and seeing it in the mirror.  We called this family the 'Tongue Coolers' since the tongue gets cooled off as the air blows across it.

Today's story was 'The Snowman Storybook' by Raymond Briggs.  This sweet story is a great conversational starter, as it has very few words.  In this story James builds a snowman who comes to life in the night.  Together, they play in Jame's house (as his parents sleep) and fly around the city.  The next morning, James finds the snowman to have melted.  Later in the day, we enjoyed the movie - it was adorable to watch the children's faces as they imagined this story coming to life.

Reminder- there is no school this coming Monday.  Next week we will make snowmen collages based on one of the stories we will read.  We need some small collage materials, like straw, cardboard, thread, beads, etc.  Please save some recycling materials and send to school next week.  Thanks!
