Healthy Plates!

Today we were joined by my son, Connor, as his school was closed today.  What fun we had with a new friend- he fit right in and all the boys made him feel welcome.

In circle this morning, Ms. Cortney read a book about food that is not healthy for our bodies, The Berenstain Bears and Too Much Junk Food.
The kids were intrigued by the pictures of the inside of our bodies....muscular, circulatory, and digestive systems were big hits.  Just FYI- we did talk about how food come in.....and back out!  They thought that was funny!

With all this talk of healthy foods, it was great to finally learn about what happens to our bodies when we eat too much junk food!  We also found this book on the computer and watched the story right before we packed up today, reinforcing the concepts learned in this book.  You can check it out here:

We also learned a new sound family:  Skinny Air (s,z).  We figured out that these sounds are made with a skinny stream of air, so we decided to call them 'Skinny Air' sounds.  Tomorrow we'll add fat air 'sh' and 'zh'.

We looked through magazines to find pictures of healthy foods.  We cut them out and put them on a plate.  The kids traced or copied from our board, "My Healthy Plate."  Healthy plate completed!
Finding and cutting pictures of healthy foods.  Cutting is hard work!

Connor was out of school today, so he joined us!
