Happy Valentine's Day!
We began this morning by reading a sweet story by Felicia Bond called The Day It Rained Hearts.
One day it rains hearts, and
Cornelia Augusta catches them. Each heart is special in its own way, and
Cornelia Augusta knows exactly who to send them to....her special friends.
We also introduced four new vowels....we now know 14 consonants and 6 vowel sounds. Today the focus was on the 'magic e', which when added behind a vowel, makes the vowel say its name. We learned 'ae', 'ee' (which we already knew), 'ie', 'oe', and 'ue'. In English, there are many exceptions to this 'magic e' rule, which must be memorized later. For now though, everyone did really well with this new rule! We chose a consonant from the 'Mystery Sounds' box and added it to each vowel, creating real and nonsense words.
Ms. Michelle brought fun a fun matching Valentine's activity. She had heart-shaped candy boxes that had foam 'chocolate' pieces inside. Each shape matched a shape that was drawn to the bottom of the box. The children had fun matching the foam shapes to the outline in the box. What a cute activity. She also let us crawl through her tunnel and let us act like insects and animals. We LOVE Ms. Michelle- she also brought us a valentine treat. Thanks, Michelle!
We joined Ms. Kelly's class to watch the short show, Arthur's Valentine. Afterwards, we made adorable Valentine hats then.....the highlight of the day......we delivered Valentine's to our church friends...just like in our story! Fun, fun!
Some parents joined us for a healthy snack and Valentine exchange! Happy Valentine's Day!
