Super Secret Valentine Surprise!

I LOVE Valentine's Day- it's a day filled with surprises of love, but no one really expects them....they are all surprises!  Later this week, we will learn about filling other people's buckets (bring nice)......but we've already started!

First, we enjoyed looking at a few pictures that Tucker sent from Australia.  Yes, he made it!  We saw him swimming at the beach, posing in front of the Opera House and eating ice cream in front of a bridge.  Beau pointed out that if he dropped his ice cream it would have germs.  We all noticed that it must be summer since they are in shorts!  The boys all wanted to send a 'miss you' message to Tucker!  Wish I were there......

This morning we read Dear Bunny....A Bunny Love Story by Michaela Morgan.  It's truly a mushy love story, but the boys seemed to enjoy it anyway!  A professional synopsis follows at the end of this post.

After our story, we played a new math game using cubes.  Each child received a mark on one finger.  Ms. Carol threw a large foam cube with different numbers on each side.  Once the cube was caught, the children had to tell us the number and count out the same number using counters.  Some each added two numbers together before counting.  It was a lot of fun!

We also enjoyed a cake that Ms. Carol made- see the yumminess below!  The last thing was super secret.....so no details will be posted here!

Ms. Carol used a heart-shaped plate to make us a Valentine Cookie!  Yum, yum!

Dear Bunny by Michaela Morgan Synopsis:
PreSchool-Grade 1–Valentino and Valenteeny, two timid bunnies, admire one another from afar, but their shyness keeps them from speaking. Then each one decides to write the other a letter and mails it in the local hollow log. Later, rain forces a mouse family to take refuge in that very log. To make the spot more comfortable, they shred everything they find, including the two letters. It is only when the bunnies are reduced to tears because they have received no replies to their correspondences that the mice realize what they have done. The sweet resolution to the problem results in a happily-ever-after ending. This is a charming story, perfect for Valentine's Day, though the holiday is never mentioned. The rabbits and mice are endearing characters, drawn in an appealing manner. The double-page picture of the sleeping mice surrounded by paper fragments of Love and Warmth and Exceptional Tenderness is especially enchanting. The large, colorful illustrations and delightful story make this a wonderful storytime selection.–Elaine Lesh Morgan, Multnomah County Library, Portland, OR
